About this event
One of 153 upcoming events at CNY Arts, and 235 across Syracuse.
Join us September 12–13, 2026 at Onondaga Lake Park for the 11th Annual Haudenosaunee Wooden Stick Festival, a weekend celebrating Deyhontsigwa’ehs — “The Creator’s Game” — at the very shores where lacrosse was born over a thousand years ago. Presented by the American Indian Law Alliance, the weekend opens Saturday with the Restore Our Sacred Lake 5K (registration 7 AM, race 8 AM), honoring the eagle’s return to Onondaga Lake after 200 years and raising awareness for ongoing cleanup efforts. From 10 AM to 5 PM both days, the festival features the Randy Hall Masters Wooden Stick Lacrosse Tournament, traditional wooden stick making demonstrations, a Smoke Dance Competition, Haudenosaunee foods, craft vendors, and a community lakeshore cleanup open to all ages. On Friday, September 11, the ticketed Alfie Jacques Ambassador Award Dinner kicks off the weekend. The festival is a collaboration rooted in the Great Law of Peace and the enduring teaching that lacrosse fosters good relationships between people and the natural world. Come play, learn, and celebrate where the Medicine Game began. Onondaga Lake Park, 106 Lake Dr, Liverpool, NY. #WoodenStickFestival #CreatorsGame
