Connecticut Landmarks is pleased to partner with the Just Kin Arts Festival at the Butler-McCook House & Garden. The 2026 Just Kin Arts Festival is Hartford’s celebration of Queer artists transgressing borders and binaries on Saturday, August 29. This year, they’re featuring Las Mariquitas, New York City’s Queer and Trans salsa band, as their headlining artists with a focus on uplifting the role of song and dance in movements for feminist and anti-colonial resistance in the Caribbean and Latin America diasporas. The festivities begin at the Hartford Public Library-Downtown located 500 Main Street, Hartford with a community altar, opening ceremony, panel, workshop, market, and lounge from 12-4 pm. Participants will then walk down the street for the main event, an outdoor concert with Las Mariquitas from 5- 7 pm at the Butler McCook House & Garden! Doors will open at 4 pm and the performance will begin at 5 pm after brief opening remarks. RSVPs are encouraged and walk-ins are welcome. This event is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $20. We welcome everyone regardless of age or identity to join us AND this space is intended first and foremost for Black and Brown Queers and Femmes and our comrades and loved ones.
