Bring a lawn chair and a picnic dinner while you enjoy music in the lovely setting of the Butler-McCook House & Garden. Plus, be sure to stay for a free tour of the house’s first floor! Audio tours are available via the IZI.Travel app for the historic garden. The Amos Bull and Butler-McCook Houses will also celebrate featured artist exhibitions. Concerts happen rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, the concert will move indoors to the Amos Bull Community Room. Featured Performers: SOAR: Sounds of April & Randall Sounds of April & Randall is an award-winning jazz ensemble led by vocalist April May Webb, 2024 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition winner, and trumpeter Randall Haywood, named “Male Rising Star” by Hot House & Jazzmobile NYC. Their musical chemistry, first sparked at a New Jersey jam session, April & Randall blend jazz with Country, R&B, and Gospel influences. April May studied under Mulgrew Miller at William Paterson University, while Randall earned his Master’s at Juilliard. In 2023, they were named U.S. Cultural Ambassadors, touring Fiji and Tonga through the State Department. They also received grants from Chamber Music America and South Arts. Their music has earned national acclaim—”Horizon “hit #17 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Charts, and Questions Left Unansweredpeaked at #12 on the National Jazz Week charts. In 2025, “Everybody Ain’t Gonna Like You” won Gold at the Annual Songwriters Association Competition of Washington. Randall was the youngest Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra member at 15, and April May was the first Black woman to graduate from William Paterson’s Jazz Education program. This concert will take place on the terrace at the Amos Bull House, located to the rear of the Butler-McCook garden at 59 S. Prospect Street in Hartford. The grounds open at 5 pm and the performance begins at 6 pm. Please note that metered street parking is usually readily available in the area, and free after 6 pm. Visitors may park and enter at the Butler-McCook entrance on Main Street, or the Amos Bull entrance on S. Prospect Street. This program takes place outdoors. In case of inclement weather, the concert will move indoors to the Amos Bull Community Room. Registrants will be notified at the email address on file in the case of cancellation.
