Join us on November 19 for a panel discussion about how and why thousands of Jewish immigrants from Central and Eastern Europe made the North End of Hartford their home in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. What were the push and pull factors that drew Jewish people away from Europe and to Connecticut, and specifically, the capital city? How did they build thriving communities? What impact did they have on the neighborhood, the city, and the state as a whole? Visitors can come early to view our current exhibition, Drawn Here: Stories from Hartford’s North End, which features stories about pioneering Jewish North End residents like Dr. Fanny Karp Radom, a founder of Mt. Sinai Hospital, and Moshe Paranov, a founder of Hartt School of Music. Our panelists are: Amy Weiss, Director of the Maurice Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Hartford; Mary Donohue, West Hartford Town Historian, and Jennifer Klau, Executive Director of The Jewish Historical Society of Greater Hartford.
