Add to calendar Google Calendar iCalendar Outlook 365 Outlook Live About Join us for Cumbias y Contemporary Art, a dance party at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH) celebrating Houston’s Latinx, Texican, and Hispanic Heritage through cumbia, contemporary art, and hands-on creativity. Come early to enjoy complimentary swag, coffee, and conversation!DJ and live music set by Gio Chamba. Houston-based local community internet radio station, Ice House Radio, will live broadcast the DJ set in partnership with CAMH.Cafe Con Amigos HTX will be hosting a CUMBIAS Y CAFÉ coffee social club from 1-2PM. Complimentary coffee will be provided by Cariño Coffee. Community safety kit making will be hosted by Woori Juntos during this time followed by a Know Your Rights WorkshopAirbrush Brothers Inc. will be onsite with a live airbrush experience, creating custom, one-of-a-kind merch for guests (one item per guest, while supplies last). Inspired by Mario Ayala: Seven Vans, the airbrush designs nod to Mario Ayala’s airbrush technique, echoing the exhibition’s exploration of the customization of lowriders and other cars. We recommend arriving early to participate.This event is free to attend and open to all ages. RSVP is recommended. This is event close to capacity. Their infectious musical blend and raucous performances give them an edge that is hard to find in many bands. Fresh and exciting, yet there’s a celebratory sense of familiarity and warmth in their performances. In the nine years of making music together, they have shared the stage with acts such as: AB Quintanilla & Los Kumbia Allstarz, Ozomatli, Natalia LaFourcade, Caravan Palace, Las Cafeteras, Chicano Batman, Sonido Gallo Negro, Dengue Dengue Dengue, Baby Bash, and Los Lonely Boys to name a few. They have also performed in several festivals and notable stages such as: Free Press Summer Fest & SuperBowl Live in Houston, Texas, Fortress Festival in Fort Worth, Texas, Villapalooza and Mole de Mayo in Chicago, Illinois, CMJ Showcase in New York City, MXLAN in McAllen, Texas, and at The Aztec Theatre in San Antonio, Texas.
