Image courtesy University of Oregon Add to calendar Google Calendar iCalendar Outlook 365 Outlook Live About Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH) is excited to partner with Houston Cinema Arts Festival to present Who Killed the Fourth Ward?Who Killed the Fourth Ward? is a three part documentary filmed in 1976 that follows three filmmakers on a journey to talk with residents, government officials, reporters, and community leaders to examine the existential forcing encroaching onto the historic Black neighborhood, Freedmen’s Town. In Part 2, entitled SUSPECTS, the film team confronts city officials on supposed plans to develop over the historic Antioch Baptist Church, how public highways have restricted the neighborhood, and how government pathways actually help or hurt the needs of Freedmen’s Town residents. In Part 3, entitled THE GUILTY, the film team brings the Mayor into Mt. Horeb Baptist Church to have the community ask him direct questions about the theory that economic flow is the only major force instigating change into Freedmen’s Town, allowing two siloed parties to finally hear answers (or lack thereof) from one another.The screening will be followed by a discussion with residents, moderated by 5th generation Fourth Ward resident Charonda Johnson.This event is ticketed.
