Create a special hand bound book to celebrate the Blue Moon (the second full moon in one month)! And….experience the magic of cyanotypes! Blue Moon Bookbinding with Katy DeMent Date: Sunday, May 31 Time: 11AM – 2PM Description: Join us for a “once-in-a-blue-moon” Sunday workshop here in the Paper Studio at Contemporary Craft! Katy DeMent will lead us in a special bookbinding workshop to commemorate May’s Blue Moon! The covers of the books will utilize the cyanotype process, in which a contact print is created by the combination of treated paper, an object and the sun’s light. They are fun and feel magical! Then, Katy will lead us through the process of creating simple hand bound books with our one-of-a-kind cyanotype covers! This workshop is perfect for beginners, and what better way to celebrate the moon’s cycle than with a new journal! Materials: All materials will be provided (includes pulps, materials for armatures, and other essential materials for the realization of the sculptures. ) Tuition: $65 + $10 Materials fee Location: Contemporary Craft, Timmons Studios (5688 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201). Note, this workshop will take place in the Paper Studio, which is on the first floor of the building. There are 2 entrances to the Timmons Studios. • One entrance is facing Butler Street. To access the Paper Studio from the Butler Street facing entrance, there are a total of 8 stairs to ascend. • One entrance is facing 57th Street. This entrance is accessible by ramp, with no stairs to ascend. The Paper Studio is located down the hall from this entrance. About the Artist ” For my entire life I have been a working artist, organic gardener, and beekeeper. I create handmade paper as a means to an end. Paper art works take the form of: art lighting, shadow box, stationary, books and sculptures all crafted from sustainably collected plants, recycled and invasive fibers. Each piece is a vignette that holds a visual narrative. Through layers of vintage ephemera, photos and bits of cloth, tales are told. When etched images are included the dialogue begins.
