Weaving-curious? This workshop will introduce you to various types of looms, and have you weaving on a frame loom! Introduction to Weaving: Beginner Basics with Jamie Boyle 3-hour workshop Date: Saturday, May 2 Time: 10am – 1pm Description: Curious about different kinds of looms? Want to try weaving but you are not sure where to start? Let this workshop be a beginning for you! Jamie will share some weaving basics and will guide you through weaving on a frame loom, which you will get to take home with you! Additionally, you will get to experience how some different types of looms function, including a rigid heddle loom and a multi-harness loom, guided by the general question: what does a loom do? In this class you will primarily work with your hands on a non-mechanical frame loom, but you will get an overview of various modes of weaving and get to try other looms in the studio! Note: We really want you to join us in the studio! Full and partial tuition scholarships are available to alleviate some of the financial burden of attending a class. There are 2 entrances to the Timmons Studios. • One entrance is facing Butler Street. To access the Fibers Loft from the Butler Street facing entrance, there are a total of 32 stairs to ascend. • One entrance is facing 57th Street. This entrance is accessible by ramp, with no stairs to ascend. There is a lift inside the building to access the Fibers Loft on the second floor. About the Artist Jamie Boyle is an artist and weaving teacher who recently moved back to Pittsburgh after living for more than a decade in a studio apartment in Brooklyn, NY with a spouse and two cats. They attended public school from grade school through graduate school. Jamie’s first weaving teacher was the artist Ann Hamilton, in whose studio they worked for several years after completing an MFA in sculpture. Subsequently, Owyn Marisol Ruck, Kira Silver, Isa Rodrigues, Kelly Valetta, and Jose Picayo taught Jamie who to use a multi-harness floor loom as a tool for weaving.
