Take your paper making skills into the 3rd Dimension, and learn some techniques for creating small-scale sculptures in this 3-part workshop Papermaking Series: Small-Scale Hollow Form Paper Sculpture with Katy DeMent 3-part series Date: Tuesday Evenings: May 19, 26, and June 2 Time: 5:30 – 8:30PM Description: Now that you know how to make a flat sheet of paper, let’s bend the rules to create small-scale handmade paper sculptures. Explore techniques for creating 3-dimensional hollow forms with the one and only Katy DeMent!!!! Explore appropriate adhesives for “what to what,” use high shrinkage fibers like abaca to create dry drum tight and translucent forms! Katy will cover a history of small sculptures called “maquettes” and discuss how you might scale up to create larger versions in the future! Session 1: Design and create armatures Session 2: Make paper sheets and begin assembly Session 3: Complete construction of small-scale sculpture Materials: All materials will be provided (includes pulps, materials for armatures, and other essential materials for the realization of the sculptures. ) Tuition: $170 + $25 Materials fee Location: Contemporary Craft, Timmons Studios (5688 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201). Note, this workshop will take place in the Paper Studio, which is on the first floor of the building. There are 2 entrances to the Timmons Studios. • One entrance is facing Butler Street. To access the Paper Studio from the Butler Street facing entrance, there are a total of 8 stairs to ascend. • One entrance is facing 57th Street. This entrance is accessible by ramp, with no stairs to ascend. The Paper Studio is located down the hall from this entrance.
