Family History is America’s Story

A genealogy-focused exhibition at Deering Estate connects one family’s history to broader stories of American independence, civic life and cultural memory. On view from June 1 through October 31, Family History is America’s Story: Tracing the Deering Family through Time is presented in collaboration with the Genealogical Society of Greater Miami as part of America250 programming. The exhibition traces members of the Deering family across generations, placing their story within a larger timeline that reaches from the period before the Revolutionary War to the present. The exhibition is part of Deering Estate’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Designated as one of Miami-Dade County’s seven Heritage Parks, Deering Estate highlights the area’s layered history, natural environment and role as a cultural gathering place in south Miami-Dade. Admission to the exhibition is included with Estate admission.
