October 2026 Artist of the Month: Jasmin Iskandar de Caro Exhibit Title: Fluir Fluir, Spanish meaning “to flow”, presents a series of abstract paintings composed of fluid, organic forms that surge and dissolve. Shapes stretch, merge, and disperse, suggesting an atmospheric space in constant flux. Jasmin Iskandar de Caro’s visual language operates as an allegory for shifting states of consciousness. Just as the forms resist fixation, perception itself is destabilized—moving through clarity, distortion, expansion, and collapse. The paintings evoke the sensation of thought and feeling blending together, highlighting the fluidity between different states of mind. Abstraction acts as a way to extend the moment between seeing and recognition. In this space of perception, Iskandar de Caro invites the viewer to further pause their thinking-mind, which seeks to label and understand. We are asked instead to live inside the questions raised by the work itself. Jasmin Iskandar de Caro was born outside Los Angeles, California to immigrant parents whose roots span Mexico, Italy, and China by way of Indonesia. Raised in an assimilation-driven household with little connection to a defined cultural lineage, she developed an early sense of dislocation that led her to question ideas of identity and belonging. Over time, her inquiry shifted toward understanding belonging not as a cultural inheritance, but as a deeper state of being. Artist Statement I create abstract paintings that are visually complex and suggestive of a narrative arc, inviting the eye to move throughout the composition as though embarking on a journey. I am deeply influenced by James Joyce’s concept of aesthetic arrest—the idea that a work of art can suspend the psyche in a moment of pure perception.
