All raised in the church choirs of the South, these women took different paths to jazz greatness. Together, they represent the full spectrum of the genre—Memphis souls illuminating the world of jazz. The Performers –  Deborah Swiney: A former backup vocalist for the legendary Al Green and founder of the annual Sunset Jazz at Court Square concert series, Swiney brings a soulful, brassy resonance known to keep audiences captivated. Patrice Williamson: Returning home from her role as a professor at the Berklee College of Music, Williamson holds a global reputation as a “breathtaking” improviser and a classical flutist-turned-jazz-virtuoso. Joyce Cobb: Often called Memphis’s “greatest musical treasure,” Cobb is a Billboard-charting artist and a Beale Street icon. From her jazz-scat mastery to her decades of mentorship at the University of Memphis and the Stax Music Academy, she represents the very heartbeat of the city’s musical heritage.
