About this event
One of 235 upcoming events at Curious Comedy.
Sketch Level 1: Fundamentals of Sketch Writing In Level 1, you’ll learn how to write comedy sketches like the ones you know and love from shows such as SNL, Mr. Show, and Key & Peele. You’ll establish a writing practice to generate material on a weekly basis, learn about the most common types of sketches, and gain hands-on experience writing your own. Students will share their sketches with each other in a supportive and collaborative environment, with constructive feedback from the instructor. No prior experience is required, just enthusiasm to write and learn! Your Instructor: Stephen Nichols Stephen Nichols has been writing, performing, and directing comedy since a young age, including Hambone, a parody of Shakespeare’s Hamlet he created for his high school English class. Since then, he has completed the full curricula of improv classes at UCB in New York City and the Brody Theater (RIP) and Curious Comedy in Portland. Stephen recently moved back to Portland from Ithaca, New York, where he performed with and coached the house teams at Third Place Theater. Stephen was one of the main writers and performers on Late Night Special, a weekly variety show on the Curious Main Stage, and currently performs in Detours with the Curious Longform Ensemble. Influences over the years include Monty Python, Christopher Guest movies, Mad TV, I Think You Should Leave, and countless obscure YouTube videos.
