Public Hours 8-9pm To kick off the 7th AURORA Biennial, States of Becoming, join AURORA and Dallas Contemporary for a special opening of two works by Berlin-based Kuwaiti artist Monira Al Qadiri. Exploring the Arabian Gulf’s pre- and post-oil histories, the works trace the region’s transformation from a pearl-based economy to one shaped by oil extraction. Alien Technology (Tower) (2023) is a large-scale sculpture modeled on an industrial oil drill bit, resembling bioluminescent marine life and futuristic organic machines. Diver (2018), an immersive video installation, features synchronized swimmers in iridescent suits that evoke the sheen of both pearls and oil, choreographed to a traditional pearl-diving song.
