Friday October 16, 2026 7:30pm Saturday October 17, 2026 7:30pm Sunday October 18, 2026 2:00pm Beethoven’s sweeping, dance-inspired symphony meets tender nostalgia in a Strauss concerto featuring the golden sound of DSO Principal Horn Daniel Hawkins. Fabio Luisi Conducts Daniel Hawkins Horn R. STRAUSS Horn Concerto No. 2 in E-flat Major BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 7 in A Major Beethoven channels the raw, kinetic energy of dance in his sweeping Symphony No. 7. Crackling with heightened drama and glorious melodies, Beethoven gets the pulse racing with vibrant ballroom dances and dizzying country fiddling. “If anyone plays the Seventh,” Wagner once wrote, “tables and benches, cans and cups, the children in the cradle fall to dancing!” Composed as World War II unleashed storms of violence across the globe, Strauss’ Horn Concerto No. 2 reaches across time to the sunnier days of the composer’s youth — especially tender memories of his father, the greatest horn virtuoso of his time. One of today’s most astounding players, DSO Principal Horn Daniel Hawkins, brings his golden sound and effortless lyricism to Strauss’ nostalgic and deeply personal score. *Concert includes a surprise opening work.
