Botanical Bundle Dyeing With Plants, Flowers & Roots

Interested in seeing how plants, flowers and roots can make beautiful botanical marks on silk? Then come join our Outreach Coordinator, Amy DuFault who is also a natural dyer and local fiber guru on Saturday, September 5th, 10am-12pm! Each participant will get 2 silk scarves and all the color choices one could wish for. We’ll start with a quick presentation on botanical bundle dyeing for some design inspiration then take a walk to look at all the color around us just on the grounds of the DCLT! After a little foraging, we’ll head back to the barn to create our own fabulous works of art. The process of bundle dyeing is simple: placing flowers, leaves, roots and more on silk that is pre-mordanted and steaming the color in. Options include choosing a color palette, covering the entire scarf with flowers, being a minimalist or even embracing a rainbow of color. Your choice, your creation. She is also a passionate advocate for Cape Cod’s water as the communications lead for Barnstable County’s Clean Water Center, a space for technologists to do cutting edge work in wastewater.
