Hand Broom Making Workshop

Appalachian Broom Making Saturday, Dec 5, 2026 from 9:30-12pm Let’s create a traditional Appalachian style hand broom using broom corn. Cathy Henson of Burnsville in Broom is a Yancey County native and learned under renowned Appalachian broommaker Marlow Gates. Together we’ll create the Turkey Wing style hand broom, and Cathy will demonstrate Hawk’s Tail as well. Traditional hand brooms weave together beauty and function, and they make great holiday presents! This event is a part of Dig In’s Resilience in the Garden series.
