Sunday, October 18th from 10 am until 4 pm $115 for members and $145 for non-members, sign up online at GualalaArts.org or at the Gualala Arts Front Desk by October 10 Discover how to transform everyday snapshots into striking works of art using the camera you carry everywhere—your smartphone. Acclaimed photography instructors Susan and Neil Silverman will lead this immersive, hands‑on iPhone Photography Workshop, designed to help participants “see differently” and approach photography with fresh creative vision. Registration is $115 for Gualala Arts members and $145 for non‑members. Sign up online at GualalaArts.org or in person at the Gualala Arts front desk by October 10.. This workshop goes far beyond learning which buttons to push. Today’s smartphones contain remarkably sophisticated camera systems and creative tools that many users never fully explore. Participants will learn to anticipate a photograph, recognize light and composition, and think artistically about the final image before pressing the shutter. Through guided demonstrations and hands‑on practice, the Silvermans will cover camera settings, exposure, focus, filters, shutter speeds, panoramas, macro photography, close‑ups, portraits, and creative techniques that elevate ordinary photos into compelling visual stories. Emphasis will be placed on composition, storytelling, and developing an artistic eye for mobile photography. Open to all experience levels, the class welcomes both iPhone and Android users, though demonstrations will be shown using a newer iPhone model. By day’s end, participants will feel more confident, creative, and intentional with the camera they already carry every day. About the Instructors Neil and Susan Silverman have been professional photographers for decades—teaching, leading workshops, and working behind the lens across many venues. Though they own an extensive collection of cameras and equipment, they often reach for their iPhones, achieving equally excellent results. As a husband‑and‑wife team, they have been “captured” by photography for more than twenty‑five years, teaching for Gualala Arts, Santa Rosa Junior College, Pacific Northwest Art School, Point Reyes Field Institute, Great American Photography Workshop, Better Photo, and numerous photography clubs and organizations. For them, sharing knowledge, experience, and camaraderie is as important as “getting the shot.” Gualala Arts retain a $35 cancellation fee, no refunds after the sign up by date of October 10 501(c)(3) Tax ID# 94-6121872 The Gualala Arts Center gratefully acknowledges the Native Peoples whose ancestral homelands we now share, and specifically the Pomo of Kashia and Manchester-Point Arena tribes, the first inhabitants of what is now coastal Sonoma and Mendocino Counties. We recognize the legacies of displacement and settlement that bring us together here and honor our shared commitment to being respectful and responsible protectors of land, water, people, arts, and culture.
