Still-Life Drawing for Middle School Artists

Build a strong artistic foundation in this four-session Still Life for Middle School course. Designed for artists ages 11–14, the class focuses on essential drawing techniques including mark-making and drawing from observation, guiding students toward thoughtfully composed still life drawings. Class 1: Exploring Our Tools – Our first session will focus on exploring the full potential of our tools; from pencils and drawing materials to the most important tools of all: our eyes and hands. Class 2: Building up the Form – In the second session, we will study light and value, and learn how careful observation and rendering of values helps make objects appear three-dimensional. Class 3: Balanced Compositions – For our third session we will consider the principle of design, Balance. Students will be guided in creating their own Still-Life setup to draw from observation. Class 4: Final Touches — The final session is dedicated to strengthening newly learned skills through feedback and guidance from the teaching artist. We are looking forward to seeing you! Important Information The doors to our events open 15 minutes before each session. If you arrive before then, there is no room to wait inside the building, so please plan accordingly. The doorman will direct you to the classroom. This event occurs on the second floor of a building without an elevator.  Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the monitor. We kindly ask that ticket rescheduling be requested at least 48 hours before class. Space is limited, and we hold spots for all ticket holders.
