Talk Tuesday: A New Mexican Burial

Artist and filmmaker JC Gonzo reviews the unique evolution of New Mexico’s burial practices and how they’ve shaped the cemeteries we see today. New Mexican cemeteries distinctly embody the history, landscape, and material culture of the region in complex and nuanced ways. This talk will discuss burial challenges of the past and present as sites today face constant change with new practices, economic patterns, and migration influencing them. Gonzo will share work from his ongoing multimedia project A New Mexican Burial, including documentary segments featuring the historic cemeteries of Sierra County, and others. JC Gonzo (b.
