Bean to Bar chocolate maker Enna Grazier, of Enna’s Chocolate in Exeter, will talk about the history of chocolate in the colonies, and its specific connections to the Washington family, who drank it daily. Enna will share the way the chocolate was prepared and enjoyed at the time and those who attend in person will have the opportunity to taste Martha's favorite chocolate beverage. Enna will speak about the consumption of chocolate at the time of the founding of the United States, using the Washingtons as an example. The family ordered it in large quantities and drank it daily as, unlike tea, the British did not impose a tax on chocolate. Come find out how the Washingtons and others prepared and enjoyed their chocolate. In person, you will have a chance to taste Martha’s favorite chocolate beverage. Enna will talk about the history of chocolate in the colonies, and its specific connections to the Washingtons, leaving some time for your culinary questions.
