Workshops Arts & Culture

@ *This class meets for three consecutive days, August 3rd, 4th, & 5th. How can poetry and art respond to what’s new in the world? In this three-day workshop with poet Kathleen Ellis, we will explore new forms of poems and possibilities for change in voice and point of view in our poems. Using the museum’s current exhibits and collection, and diverse poetic styles, we will generate new poems in a supportive environment. Poets and visual artists of all levels welcome. Kathleen Ellis’ latest poetry collection, Body of Evidence, won the 2022 Grayson Books poetry award. Other recent collections are Outer-Body Travel and Narrow River to the North. Her poems have appeared in numerous literary magazines and anthologies, such as The Café Review; A Dangerous New World: Maine Voices on the Climate Crisis; and Enough!: Poems of Resistance and Protest. A recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Maine Arts Commission, and the Pablo Neruda Prize from Nimrod, Ellis teaches poetry and creative writing at the University of Maine, Orono and coordinates the annual POETS/SPEAK! in Bangor. She has taught poetry writing workshops at the Farnsworth Art Museum since 1993. Cost: $260; $235 for members. Access rates available. To ensure the program can run as planned, a minimum of 6 participants is required. Add to calendar Google Calendar iCalendar Outlook 365 Outlook Live
