Named after the wooden floor used by a bailaor/a (dancer), tablaos are intimate venues that harness the highly improvisational and virtuosic nature of flamenco. Originally known as cafés cantantes (which became popular during the midnineteenth century in Spain), tablaos are still among the most popular places to see flamenco today. Tablao performances offer audiences a rare opportunity to feel the artists’ emotions up close and experience the dynamic interplay between the dancers, guitarist and singer come alive.
