About this event

Workshops

Overview Go beyond the single frame and learn to build a compelling visual story. This intensive, two-hour intermediate workshop is designed for photographers ready to transition from taking individual images to developing cohesive, long-form documentary projects. Through a blend of historical context, contemporary case studies, and structured project planning, you will move past the “what” of your images to discover the “why.” We will deconstruct the medium’s diverse genres—from social and environmental advocacy to the intimacy of portraiture—helping you align your personal passions with a professional documentary framework.   What You Will Learn The Architecture of a Story: Understand the evolution of documentary photography and the specific visual languages used in social, environmental, and street narratives. Finding Your Voice: Participate in guided exercises to identify your unique creative strengths and the subjects that resonate with your personal perspective. The Project Blueprint: Move from a vague idea to a concrete plan. You will be provided with a professional framework to define your theme, identify your audience, and outline actionable goals. Educator Biography Zoraida Díaz is a Colombian-born documentary photographer and former Reuters  photojournalist whose work has graced the front pages of globally recognized newspapers  and appeared in seminal texts such as Thames & Hudson’s A World History of Women  Photographers. Currently, Díaz continues to develop documentary projects in Latin America  and is a contract photographer with ZUMA Press. Requirements This workshop is tailored for intermediate-level photographers who have a solid grasp  of technical fundamentals and have begun working on personal projects. Whether you  are looking to refine a current body of work or are searching for the spark for your next  big project, this session provides the visual architecture to help you push your creative  boundaries.  If you have any questions or would like more information regarding classes call the Museum at (813)221-2222 or email Membership@fmopa.org
