@ Join us for the opening reception of A Thousand Answers: Rhizome Fellowship Artists 2025/26, featuring works by dre jácome and Zella, on Thursday, October 1 from 6 – 9 PM, with remarks at 7 PM. Please note, timed masking will be in effect from 6 – 7:30 PM to accommodate immunocompromised guests of the artists (details below). A Thousand Answers cites an interview in which Octavia Butler was partially misquoted. When asked about the disasters of the future, Butler explained that there wasn’t a silver bullet but “thousands of answers,” at least. Inspired by this call to the pluriversal, A Thousand Answers brings together dré jacome and Zella’s work engaging collective intelligence. jácome presents Earthseed (2022–present), a site-specific storytelling installation that houses and encodes oral history interviews onto seed sculptures. In collaboration with Ayni Herb Farm’s founder Amara Ullauri, this iteration turns toward those whose hands tend the land, and speculates on housing living archives off screen and in relationship. Zella’s intermedia installation and library is situated within Experimental School for Black Imagination, a collective they helped initiate. A new volume of Experimental’s publication series, We Be Coming Free, titled “Noticing,” considers how collective practices of attention can become forms of creative sovereignty. Visit A Thousand Answers: Rhizome Fellowship Artists 2025/26 for details and a full schedule of events. Timed Masking To support immunocompromised guests of the artists, masking will be required inside Flux IV from 6:00–7:30 pm. If you arrive during this period: Please wear a mask when entering the space. If you do not have one, we will provide one for you. Refreshments will be available on the patio during this time, but food and drinks are not permitted inside Flux IV while timed masking is in effect. If you prefer not to wear a mask, you are very welcome to return between 7:30–9:00 pm, when timed masking will no longer be in effect. Thank you for helping us make the event welcoming and accessible to guests with different health needs! About the Artists dre r. jácome is an andean-american transdisciplinary artist, storyteller, and strategist inspired by magical realism and the survival arts of everyday living. Drawing from her studies in history, herbalism, and interactive technology, she weaves across digital and land-based technologies to honor and defend BIPOC knowledge systems held in story, nature, and recovering cosmologies. Her practice is grounded in relational methodologies—archival research, oral history, critical ethnobotany, and long-term partnership with organizations and chosen family—and indebted to years of working alongside solidarity economy, abolition, and popular education movements across Philly, NYC, and Bogotá. Currently, she serves as the communications director at the After Violence Project. Zella is an artist, cultural organizer, and designer whose work spans painting, performance, zines, and portal-making; and a founding organizer with the Experimental School for Black Imagination, a collective offering led by artists tending to the ways we come together to create, feel, and grow. Zella’s work aims to ask new questions about what it means to be free, while being a mirror for Black queer folks; visualizing our beauty, divinity, and boundless new worlds that have always been ours to take up spiritual residence in. Zella earned an MFA in Interaction Design from the School of Visual Arts; and they split their time between New York City and Côte d’Ivoire. They are also a board member and design lead with the Black Veterans Project. They live in Brooklyn with their turtle, MJ.
