Tisha Johnson, a Naturalist Educator with a background in environmental science, will give us a closer look at the plants and animals that depend on wetlands for food, shelter, and survival. She will also discuss why these habitats are so important to conserve. October 13, 2026: Atoms to Energy Ever wondered how splitting the smallest atoms can generate enough electricity to power your home? Join us for an engaging presentation with Dan Buman from the Nebraska Public Power District, who will break down the basics of how a nuclear power plant works. We’ll learn how nuclear energy is produced, the science behind the process, and the safety measures in place. Dan will also explore how nuclear energy fits into today’s broader energy landscape. November 10, 2026: Let’s Go Fishing! We’re all familiar with bass, trout, and catfish—but have you ever heard of a stickleback, moonfish, or drum? Nebraska is home to more than 100 species of fish, many of which are lesser known but equally fascinating. Join Daryl Bauer from Nebraska Game and Parks as he introduces us to some of the many native fish species found across the state. This engaging program will explore where these fish live and the habitat requirements that support their survival. December 8, 2026: Microbes – They’re Everywhere! Microbes—some of the tiniest organisms on Earth—are found almost everywhere. They live in soil and water, on and inside plants and animals, and even within our own bodies. While some microorganisms are beneficial and essential to life, others can cause harm. Join Dr. Paul Ayaee as he introduces the fascinating world of microbes and explores their roles in our environment.
