About this event

Community Workshops

Poetry in the Park, organized by the Fort Greene Park Conservancy and curated in partnership with Najee Omar, is an annual community celebration where poetry, music, and creativity fill Fort Greene Park for an afternoon of connection and inspiration. Held in celebration of National Poetry Month, the festival invites neighbors from across Brooklyn to gather beneath the trees and open sky to listen, create, and share. Through performances, workshops, and spontaneous moments of expression, Poetry in the Park transforms the park into a welcoming space where stories are honored, voices are uplifted, and the power of art brings people together. This year’s festival features powerful performances from acclaimed poets, a vibrant community open mic, and live DJ sets that keep the energy flowing throughout the day. Guests can also jump into hands-on creative experiences, including zine-making, walking haikus through the park, and a mind, body, and soul reflection space for writing and grounding. Together, these offerings invite everyone to experience poetry as something alive, heard, created, and shared in community.  Free books will be provided by Brooklyn Book Bodega. Additional poetry programming will be supported by Walt Whitman Library. Rain Date: Sunday, April 26 RSVP Here
