Explore the meeting place between Mexican herbal traditions and Western herbalism. Drawing from Mexican folk medicine, curanderismo, and Western clinical herbalism, we’ll explore how plants have long been understood as practical medicines as well as part of a larger relationship between people, place, food, and healing. Together we’ll look at ways these traditions understand herbs differently, as well as where they overlap. We’ll discuss traditional Mexican plants and preparations alongside Western herbal concepts such as energetics, herbal actions, formulation, and the clinical use of medicinal plants. About the Herbalist Sofia Arana-Miranda is a Certified Clinical Herbalist, educator, folk practitioner, and ceremonialist whose work bridges Western clinical herbalism with Mexican plant traditions and folk medicine. Alongside her formal study, her relationship with Mexican folk medicine is rooted in Mexica family lineage and a personal connection to the traditions of curanderismo. Her work is an ongoing exploration of how different systems of plant knowledge can be held alongside one another with context, respect, and curiosity. She is particularly interested in preserving the cultural roots of herbal traditions while making practical plant knowledge accessible to people today. All are welcome. No previous herbal experience is required. Date: Saturday, October 18 Time: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Location: Nyland Cohousing Commonhouse, 3525 Nyland Way Lafayette, CO 80026 Cost / Registration: Sliding Scale $25-35
