About this event

Tours

Join Maine Master Naturalist Christie Constantine for a guided walk exploring how our forests transform in autumn. Shorter days and cooler temperatures trigger a burst of color as trees shut down chlorophyll production and prepare for dormancy. Wildlife, too, is busy getting ready – whether storing food, building fat reserves, or seeking the perfect winter den. We’ll explore why leaves change color and the remarkable strategies trees, birds, mammals, amphibians, and insects use to survive the colder months ahead. From migrating birds and food-hoarding squirrels to hibernating mammals and freeze-tolerant frogs, this walk reveals the subtle and fascinating signs of seasonal preparation unfolding all around us.
