Twenty-five years ago, the United States sustained the greatest loss of life since Pearl Harbor. In a coordinated attack, 2,996 died following plane strikes into both towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and rural Pennsylvania. It was a day that would be indelibly seared into the conscience of the nation. On September 11, 2001, Michael Morrell – a CIA employee who would later become Acting CIA Director – was assigned to conduct the Presidential Daily Briefing. He was with President Bush that morning at an elementary school in Florida when word reached them that a plane had just hit one of the Twin Towers. Fifteen minutes later, a second plane hit and it was Mike Morrell job to brief the president that the country was now at war.
