Pumpkin Smash Composting Day

Join Global Gardens Chicago and Waste Not Compost to green your halloween on Saturday, November 7th at 10:00am-2:00pm to smash your pumpkins and enjoy some light bevvys and snacks. What is the Pumpkin Smash? The Pumpkin Smash is an annual effort by communities to divert pumpkins from landfills by providing locations for residents to drop-off jack-o-lanterns to be composted. It is typically held each year the Saturday after Halloween. Don’t Trash it, Smash it! Did you know that pumpkins are 90% water? This means they produce a lot of leachate in landfills, further contaminating our soils. But, we can help fix that by composting our pumpkins.
