Beginning Watercolor: Animal Portraits

Learn Jess’s unique “333” approach to watercolor while painting animal portraits. Paint 333 is the system I designed for learning watercolor by ensuring you understand the 3 properties of water control for paper, paint, and brushes, 3 principles of color, contrast, and composition, and 3 step process of painting with water, dropping in color, and finishing with texture techniques. Students will also learn thirteen techniques and a way of working that ensures you consider layers, sections, and edges while you paint. You’ll walk away from the class with the tools and skills to paint what you love with success. We’ll put everything we’ve learned together during the class to complete a series of watercolor animal portraits. This workshop is open to ages 15+ Students are asked to bring the following supplies Paper Your favorite cold press or rough paper in 140 or 300lb. Recommendations: Best 300lb: Fabriano or Arches cold press or rough 300lb Best budget 300lb: New York Central Art Supply 300lb cold press Best 140lb: Fabriano Studio 140lb cold press Brushes Your favorite brushes for covering large areas with water and for making small details.
