David Hahn was a beloved community-member, artist who passed away in 2022. He attended Washington University School of Fine Arts and the University of Minnesota. David was Art Director for Miller Publishing. After retiring to Hovland, David focused on watercolor and enjoyed teaching youth classes at the Art Colony as well as working within the public school, creating portrait cards for the Viking athletic teams. His generous memorial gifts support the funding for this event. Free art stations will be set up for participants to explore various art activities. Exploring Monoprints Heinrich Toh Participants will explore a variety of materials to make one-of-a-kind prints, including plant materials, cardboard, doilies, and bubble wrap. Mark and pattern-making tools will also be used, along with craft foam relief shapes. Working with a variety of materials to create a print is an intuitive process with endless possibilities that is easy for young ones and beginners. While the more skilled can be challenged with creating more complex prints with multiple layers. Textured Creatures Hana Nichols Explore organic textures in the process of relief printing. Participants will use Play-Doh and organic materials such as leaves, pinecones, sticks, grass, and rocks to create an organic texture. Elements will be put together to create unique prints. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
