Explore how to create translucent, layered paintings only achieved with molten beeswax on Ampersand Encausticbord. A brief history and description of Encaustic painting will be discussed as well as basic supplies and tools, safety, preparation of supports including application of grounds and fusing. An overview of a variety of techniques will be demonstrated such as image transfers, mixing your own paint, creating texture and working with masks and stencils. There will also be lots of studio time and one-on-one instruction. You will create paintings that will develop your aesthetic and artistic voice with this medium. All levels welcome and all supplies, including R&F Paints, Ampersand Encausticbord, and Silverbrush Ltd. brushes are provided. Students Will Please Bring the Following Materials 4 – 8 Panels/Supports to work on–they should be rigid and absorbent. Suggested sizes: 12” x 12”, 11×14” or 10” x 10”, and 8” x 8”., 9×12”, 8×10” The panels can be Encausticbord,* Claybord or untreated wood such as maple, birch, or plywood. Rectangular panels will also work such birch plywood. Raw wood Textural items such as assorted coarse fabric, heavy string, metal washers, toothpicks, popsicle sticks, sturdy plant material, 1/16-3/32-inch-thick balsa wood to shape and glue.
