Pastel: Adding Structures to your Landscapes
From publicly posted calendar Checked yesterday
About this event
One of 33 upcoming events at Grand Marais Art Colony.
Often students shy away from architecture due to their fear of getting the perspective incorrect. Nancie’s love of cityscapes and interesting structures has inspired her to paint them for years, and her goal is to help students learn the methods to establish correct vanishing points and find success. The class will work both in the studio and outdoors and Nancie will divest her methods to assist students in completing one painting over the course of each daily session. Students will find that the principles crossover and apply well to both soft pastels or oils and are welcome to work in either medium. Students Are To Bring the Following Supplies Required materials for pastels Along with your portable setup for painting, here are additional materials: Assorted soft and hard pastels Sturdy fan brush Closed container of denatured alcohol (hardware store) Shallow jar lid to dip fan brush into alcohol 3-6 rigid pastel panels or pastel paper taped to a rigid board, suggested 12×16” or smaller (I use UART #400 or Ampersand pastel boards) Vine charcoal Waxed paper or glassine and painter’s tape to wrap your finished work for transport Wet wipes (I recommend the facial cosmetic ones) Required materials for oil painting Along with your portable setup for painting, here are additional materials: Up to 8 tubes of the colors you most frequently use An assortment of 1-inch and smaller brushes A closed container of turps 3-6 panels or stretched canvas (12 x 16-inch or smaller) Paper towels Art Colony Student Lodging Starting August 16 and moving forward, the Art Colony is thrilled to be able to offer affordable student lodging. Access to lodging is one of the most practical barriers facing visiting artists and students. By offering below-market-rate housing, we can open our doors wider to emerging artists, rural participants, young creatives, and those for whom the full cost of travel can feel out of reach. Visit our GiveMN fundraiser to learn more about our capital campaign. Where is Ella’s Inn? 118 West 3rd Avenue, directly next to the Art Colony’s Founders Hall Studio. What is the nightly rate? Registered Art Colony students will pay $85/night. How do I reserve a room? As we get our ducks in a row with an online system, we invite you to reserve a room by reaching out to Emma at in**@******************ny.org. Include the class you are signed up for along with your arrival and departure dates
