About this event
One of 4 upcoming events at Grand Marais Public Library.
Free, open to all Vine will be reading from his second poetry collection The Cave and answering questions. Critics describe The Cave as “powerful and completely realized,” “profound and enduring,” and “utterly masterful and deeply moving.” The Cave contains haunting meditations on fatherhood, fearless contemplations of place and lineage, clear-eyed examinations of generational trauma, and moves—from narrative to lyric to narrative to lyric—toward a more perfect and complete clarity. Vine is the author of The Cave (Texas Review Press, '25), named one of the Best Poetry Books of 2025 by the California Review of Books; To Keep Him Hidden (Salmon Poetry, '18), winner of the Northeastern Minnesota Book Award; WARD (Texas Review Press, '21); and Distant Engines (Backwaters Press, '06), winner of a Weldon Kees Award. His honors include the Greensboro Review’s Robert Watson Poetry Prize, an Artist Initiative Grant and two Creative Support Grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board, three McKnight/ARAC Career Development Grants, and a Walter E. Dakin Fellowship in Poetry from the Sewanee Writers' Conference. Currently, he is professor of English at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. Ryan Vine is a fiscal year 2026 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature; and by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
