One of the East Coast’s most distinctive tall ships returns to Greenport this summer as Kalmar Nyckel, The Tall Ship of Delaware, offers a week of public sailing adventures from July 21–26, 2026. Docked adjacent to the East End Seaport Museum, the historic vessel invites residents and visitors alike to experience life aboard a 17th-century square-rigged ship while exploring the scenic waters of Long Island Sound. Passengers will board at: 100 Third Street, Greenport, NY 11944. Each 2.5-hour sail combines history, education, and adventure. Guests can help haul lines, set sails, and learn traditional seamanship skills from the volunteer crew, or simply sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of sailing aboard a working tall ship. Unlike most boat tours, no two voyages aboard Kalmar Nyckel are exactly alike. As a true sailing vessel, the ship follows the wind wherever it leads. Depending on weather and sailing conditions, passengers may cruise past scenic shorelines, explore the waters around Orient Harbor, or catch a glimpse of the historic East End Ledge Light, affectionately known to locals as “Bug Light.” Every voyage is shaped by the wind, tides, and sea, making each sailing a unique experience. “We’re always excited to return to Greenport,” says Captain Lauren Morgens, Ship’s Master. “The North Fork community has enthusiastically welcomed the ship over the years, and we’re looking forward to sharing another week of sailing adventures, maritime history, and hands-on experiences with local residents and visitors alike.” Returning to Greenport has become a cherished tradition for Kalmar Nyckel and its volunteer crew. The North Fork’s rich maritime heritage, vibrant waterfront, and enthusiastic community make it one of the ship’s favorite ports of call. Visitors often return year after year to experience the thrill of sailing aboard the tall ship, and previous Greenport visits have seen many sailings sell out in advance. Public Sailing Schedule: Tuesday, July 21st 5:00pm– 7:30pm. Wednesday, July 22nd 10am– 12:30pm, 2pm–4:30pm. Thursday, July 23rd 10am– 12:30pm, 2pm– 4:30pm. Friday, July 24th 10am–12:30pm. Saturday, July 25th 10am–12:30 pm. Sunday, July 26th 10am–12:30pm, 2pm–4:30pm. Tickets are $85 for adults and $50 for children ages 12 and younger. Advance reservations are strongly recommended, as sailings frequently sell out. Tickets may be purchased online at KalmarNyckel.org or by calling 302-429-7447. Public parking is available Greenport Long Island Station. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early during peak summer weekends. All sailing schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change. About the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation The Kalmar Nyckel Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing maritime history through the operation of Kalmar Nyckel, a full-scale replica of the 1638 Swedish ship that carried settlers to the Delaware Valley and helped establish the Colony of New Sweden. Through public sails, educational programs, youth development initiatives, and living-history experiences, the Foundation connects thousands of people each year to America’s maritime heritage.
