October is the gateway to a changing of the avian guard… summer is over and birds and mammals are preparing for the cooler months. Ducks, grebes, raptors and songbirds pour into the ponds, wetlands and forests of the cape for months of food and rest. Join naturalist and author Peter Trull for birding field classes exploring the water’s edge and forested trails of Bell’s Neck Conservation Lands and the re-wilded wetland habitats of the Cold Brook Preserve and Hinckleys Pond — Herring River Headwaters Preserve. Discover the habits and life histories of each species encountered and observe the foraging behaviors of migratory birds as they build up fat stores for their upcoming journeys. Birding enthusiasts from all experience levels are welcome. Please bring binoculars.
