Sailor’s Valentines were cherished 19th-century keepsakes, given by sailors as enduring expressions of love and devotion to those awaiting them at home. In this special workshop, participants will create a refined, contemporary Sailor’s Valentine guided directly by Iimuro’s master-level expertise. The design is an original composition featuring the traditional Japanese pattern Seigaiha, an auspicious motif symbolizing everlasting peace, resilience, and a harmonious life. Under expert instruction, you will compose an intricate shell mosaic using carefully curated shells, selected specifically for this design. Your piece will be set within a 10-inch octagonal Japanese oak frame, custom crafted by highly skilled Japanese woodworkers, elevating the work to a lasting art object suitable for display. All materials are provided. Participants will leave with a beautiful, exhibition-quality piece, rich in history, symbolism, and craftsmanship—a truly special work created through a rare opportunity to learn from a master.
