Deep River

Bio Founded in 1992 by band leader, vocalist, bass guitarist Sharon Lewis, Deep River’s signature sound is the combined vocal range of three women: Lewis, primary vocalist Sandy Howard and soprano vocalist Nita Smith, backed by three of Asheville’s finest musicians: Lead Guitarist Alec Fehl, Drummer Justin Watt and Rhythm Guitarist Peter Millis. While Lewis and Howard were Nashville’s Tallest Female Country Duo from 1993-2003, since moving to Asheville in 2003 Deep River morphed from a Nashville-style country band to Asheville’s Premier Mixologist of Prime (90’s) Country & Yacht Rock, two genres beloved by fans of all ages, in which one might listen and dance to hits by Patty Loveless, Martina McBride and Shania Twain, as well as the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and Linda Ronstadt, just to name a few. Lest they be pigeonholed as strictly a cover band, they always slip an original song or two into their shows like for example, ‘Civil War’ which was played on Asheville’s KISS Country 99 FM! Weekend Live Music Highland Brewing’s weekend live music series showcases incredible local talent, regional acts and national touring bands from across the East Coast and beyond. Free and open to all ages (unless noted otherwise), it’s the perfect excuse to gather your crew, listen and vibe to a wide range of genres including soul, bluegrass, acoustic, country, folk and more. Live music takes place in the indoor Taproom which includes a tables, chairs and room for dancing. Please note that coolers and outside alcohol are not permitted on the premises.
