About this event

Arts & Culture

This April, creativity is in full bloom every Saturday at Open Studio! Each week, we’ll look at nature-inspired artworks by artists such as Alexander Calder, Giacomo Balla, Joseph Cornell, and more. Join us this Saturday as we get inspired by artist Lesley Vance’s Untitled (2021). For Untitled, Vance was inspired by her experience of snorkeling in Kaua’i, Hawaii. Taking inspiration from her artistic practice, we’ll experiment with paint and straws to make our own aquatic compositions!  Meet in Art School on the Museum’s Lower Level. ABOUT OPEN STUDIO Let your creativity run wild at Open Studio! Drop in to explore modern and contemporary art through interactive hands-on activities inspired by the Hirshhorn collection and artworks on view. Open Studio helps you transform your ideas into reality. Every session introduces a new theme and a fresh perspective on art-making. Activities are designed to captivate everyone—from budding young artists to seasoned creators—and allow them to craft, create, and learn. No reservations or tickets are required. Stroller parking is available in the Hirshhorn Lobby and on the Lower Level. If there are services or accommodations that can improve your experience (e.g., ASL interpretation, live captioning, etc.), please contact HMSGEducation@si.edu. We appreciate receiving such requests at least one to two weeks in advance. For a group of 10 or more, please contact HMSGEducation@si.edu to reserve a program in advance.
