About this event
One of 19 upcoming events at Historic Germantown.
The Secret Cinema will be screening curated eerie short films and the 1939 Boris Karloff classic, The Man They Could Not Hang. Karloff plays a scientist who develops a machine that can bring dead people back to life. He demonstrates it by killing his willing medical-student assistant, intending to revive him—but the police arrive before he can complete the experiment. Karloff is convicted of murder and executed...and then, naturally, comes back from the dead himself and starts taking revenge on everybody who convicted him. This unintentional comedy is a dead-serious presentation of an increasingly preposterous story featuring mad-scientist machinery, melodrama, and Karloff plotting elaborate revenge.
