Dr. Alicestyne Turley has been digging into the archives—and what she has found may change how we understand the expansion of the western frontier and Locust Grove’s important role in the shaping of a nation. New research connects Kentucky’s founding, Thomas Jefferson, the westward expansion of the United States, and the lives and extraordinary skills of previously unknown enslaved craftspeople. You will want to be in the room to be among the first to hear what she has uncovered. This lecture is part of our Afternoon Lecture Series on the first Wednesday of each month, and takes place on Wednesday, September 2. Doors open at 12:30 PM for drinks and refreshments, and the lecture will begin at 1 PM. Presented by Kentucky Humanities as part of the Our American Story: Kentucky’s Voices series under the theme “Remembering Together”. Tickets are $8 for Locust Grove members and $10 for non-members.
