Woodland Cemetery Tours are back! Before sirens and modern fire trucks, Quincy’s firefighters were volunteers who dropped everything when the fire bell rang. Discover the history of Quincy’s early fire companies and the men who answered the call. Meet Emerson Miller, Quincy’s first Fire Chief, and learn how the city’s firefighting system evolved from independent volunteer companies and hand pumpers into a unified, professional department. Along the way, hear stories of courage, danger, technology, devastating fires, and the people who ran toward the flames while everyone else was running away.
