From Museum of Miami

Miami Author Series @ Admission is $20. Members attend free. REGISTER Join the Museum of Miami for a fireside chat with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Mirta Ojito as she discusses her acclaimed novel Deeper Than the Ocean. A sweeping story of family, migration, love, and the secrets that can reshape everything we thought we knew about where we come from. Ojito’s dual narrative brings history and memory together, exploring the ways migration, family stories, and buried secrets can echo across generations. During the conversation, Ojito will share the inspiration behind Deeper Than the Ocean and discuss the history, places, and human stories woven throughout the novel. Following the conversation, Ojito will be available for a book signing. Books & Books–Coral Gables will be on-site with copies of Deeper Than the Ocean available for purchase. Members must sign in for free registration to take effect. The program is presented in connection with the Museum of Miami’s exhibition Caught in the Eye: Remembering the 1926 Hurricane. Book Partnership with Mirta Ojito is a journalist, professor and author of two previous non-fiction books. She is the recipient of an Emmy for the documentary Harvest of Misery as well as a shared Pulitzer for national reporting in 2001, for a series of New York Times articles on race. A refugee from Cuba, her work often explores the complexities of identity, belonging, and the quiet power of resilience. She lives in Coral Gables, Florida, where she is endlessly inspired—and occasionally outnumbered—by her three grown sons and too many plants. Deeper than the Ocean is her first novel. Her work has appeared in several anthologies, including Written into History: Pulitzer Prize Reporting of the Twentieth Century from The New York Times, edited by Anthony Lewis. Ojito has taught journalism at New York University, Columbia University, and the University of Miami. She is currently a senior director for News Standards at NBCUniversal. www.mirtaojitoauthor.com REGISTER Add to iCalendar dditional Information Helpful Tips Program check-in will begin 15-minutes prior to the program start.
