“French and English Baroque Music for Tenor,” a concert of chamber music presented by Hudson Valley Baroque, featuring Marc Molomot

Imagine the musical circle around Madame de Maintenon, an impoverished French Huguenot who became the devoutly Catholic, influential secret wife of the Sun King, Louis XIV – the monarch who ordered the Protestant Huguenots expelled from France through his 1685 revocation of the Edict of Nantes. Imagine the amorous and bawdy exuberance of London’s musical culture after the end of Oliver Cromwell’s Puritan government in 1658 and the restoration of the British monarchy. These milieux will be conjured by this concert of beautiful and expressive music for tenor voice from the French and English Baroque. Featured will be works of Louis-Nicolas Clérambault (1676 – 1749), Jacques-Martin Hotteterre (1674 – 1763), Henry Purcell (1659 – 1695), and Johann Christoph Pepusch (1667 – 1752).
