About Your Instructors Karolina Sawicka is a dedicated educator with over 10 years of experience in teaching people of all ages. She began her career in New York City, where she developed creative solutions for gardening in small spaces. Currently, she serves as the Horticulture Educator at Huntsville Botanical Garden, where she shares her knowledge and love of plants with the community. Karolina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Sustainability from Kean University. Now living in Decatur, she enjoys exploring the numerous outdoor recreational activities that Alabama has to offer in her free time. Katrina Mitchell is Huntsville Botanical Garden’s Conservation Horticulturist. She has a Master’s of Science Degree in Biology where her studies and research focused on conservation and ecology. She specializes in propagating and growing native plants, especially those of conservation concern (rare, threatened, and endangered species) in the southeast.
