But for her first film, it was important Nadine Labaki to show Lebanon how it actually is: complex, full of life, and not just destitute and war-torn. Caramel reminds outside audiences that people still have to live their lives day by day while political tensions are high, and the film has become a source of pride for the Lebanese people.
