Story time Workshops Family Friendly

Saturday, April 18, 2026, 1 – 2pm Storytime Room Get ready for an exciting creative workshop paired with an original children’s book written and illustrated by UI student Abby Myroth. “How the Wild Things Sleep” follows Luna’s nighttime journey as she learns about incredible sleep behaviors across the animal kingdom. From giraffes who sleep standing up to dolphins who sleep while swimming, Luna discovers that animals have amazing ways to rest and stay safe. After the read-aloud, participants will design their own imaginary animal with a unique sleep adaptation based on where it lives and what dangers it faces. This hands-on activity reinforces STEM concepts like biological adaptation, habitat, and survival strategies while letting creativity shine. Each participant will also receive a sleep journal to track their own sleep habits and learn why rest is essential for growing bodies and minds. Abby Myroth is a nueroscience and ancient civilizations major at the University of Iowa, as well as a research ambassador at the Office of Undergraduate Research. Her passion for sleep science comes from her research work studying sleep development under Dr. Mark Blumberg as an Iowa Sciences Academy intern.   Open to the public
