From Irvington Historical Society

During the American Revolution, women were expected to assume the loyalties of their husbands and fathers and to support their war efforts. Yet this presentation examines how many women asserted their independence during the conflict, expressing their own political convictions and stepping into roles they had never imagined. These Revolutionary women expanded the spheres of female work and influence in a nation striving to define itself. Samantha Wilcoxson is an author of historical fiction and nonfiction that illuminates overlooked figures from the medieval era through the 20th century. Samantha’s book, Women of the American Revolution, takes an intimate look at women’s lives during the birth of the nation.
